This shaft support is an OEM manufactured by Poulan. The metal support is compatible with many lawn tractors. This component is designed to secure the sector gear and the steering shaft, allowing the operator to turn the wheels. To make the replacement, you will need a screwdriver, pliers and a wrench and socket set. Please refer to specific manual and diagrams for further repair instructions. The shaft support is sold individually.

steering support was worn out the gear on shaft was also worn.

I disassembled the assembly because I didn\'t relize the shaft pulled out so I could remove the assembly. I still don\'t know what is suppose hold the shaft in preventing it from pulling out of the assembly, I used a radiater clamp on the shaft to stop it from pulling up. The new shaft was 1 inch shorter than the original.

put everything back together.

thread control lost friction; steering shaft support worn out, loose, gears slipping

Remove and replace thread control using star bit for clamp screws. Adjust lever position.

Remove battery and battery shelf. Remove mower deck. Unbolt steering gears support bracket.
Remove steering shaft support bracket using longer bolt to drive pivot shaft over 1/2 way.
Mark position of pivot gear on knurled piv ot shaft in order to reposition correctly.
Remove pivot gear retaining spring clip to allow pivot gear to slide along pivot shaft.
Remove inside bolt holding steering shaft support bracket onto the steering shaft.
Reassemble everything in reverse order installing the new black nylon steering support bracket.

Steering was skipping

1. Removed deck
2. Removed steering assembly and steering wheel from dash
3. Removed steering support from assembly, remove circlip and gear shaft, (fairly difficult)
4. Then removed support from steering shaft by sawing it in half, then the screw holding it to shaft
5. Finally installing support to steering shaft, then to assembly then paying attention to alignment marks to center pinion to gear, then bolting assembly back in, and steering wheel to dash, then the deck and you are done

Removed gas tank
Removed mower deck
Removed steering wheel and steering shaft extension
remove 4 bolts on bottom of frame to remove the steering assembly
put assembly in vise and remove bolt and c clip so shaft could be removed to replace the worn part. Put mark on large gear so relation to the bar on the shaft is preserved. reassemble being careful to put large gear back on spline in same position.
install assembly on frame and reverse other steps

1. remove deck
2. remove steering wheel and column
3. remove 4 bolts from under mower
4. remove bolt holding steering system to left front wheel
5. pull out steering unit
6. disassemble steering unit
7. remove hex nut to separate steering shaft from support-shaft
8. replace steering support-shaft
9. reverse order
