Pull engine, remove pulley under side, belts engine mount bolts. Disconnect cables and wire connectors. Lift engine out and put it on table with the crank case cover pointing at you. Drain oil unless you want a mess on your hands. Remove case cover and observe the rods, see nothing, then remove cylinder heads and unbolt rods observin g what direction is on your side, best to mark with a punch mark. Clean carbon from top edge of cylinder and push rod out the top, may need to push it hard to get it to come out when rings hit the top of cyl Be sure to catch the piston and rod! Look at crank journal and polish with emory cloth untill aluminum marks are polished off. Then if you want, measure the journal to get the diameter and see if it is round. Replace rod with new. Remove retainer ring on one end of rist pin and slide pin out observing what direction the rod goes in the piston, replace retainer ring be sure it is seated. Clean the inside of crank case from all polishing debris. Clean piston and install ring compressor to install the piston/rod assy back ontoo the crank journal and torque to 160 in pounds. Cover it up and reverse the steps to put it back in the mower.
