Product Description

This is an authentic OEM part for use with Craftsman for Lawn Tractors. The steering shaft connects the steering wheel to the sector gear. The most common reason for replacing the steering shaft is when the steering wheel will not turn the mower, but this is rarely the problem. This part is sold individually. The tools that you will need to replace the steering shaft is a 3/4" socket, mallet, 3/8" socket, floor jack, pliers and a 9/16" socket.

3 minute repair

This steering shaft was an exact replacement and fit well. Easy and fast to replace however, the separate $3 nylon lock nut that is listed and supposed to thread on end of shaft was the wrong size. The nut that was shipped has a 3/8"-16 thread. The thread on the shaft is 5/16-18. This nut is supposed to retain the shaft and steering wheel from coming off in your hands. This threaded section on my original shaft broke off. Needs to be beefed up with a 1/2" thread.
