    Removed the front wheel with a socket wrench, cleaned the grass out of the wheel and drive gears, and replaced the broken dust cover with a new one. After replacing the wheel, the mower is as good as new.

    The best part of this project was the ease with which the part could be purchased from ereplacementparts.com.

    Took off tire and wheel, one nut, replaced dust cover and put on new wheel. Old wheel was usable but the drive gear had a lot of wear. Mainly because with the broken dust cover grass cuttings were packed in the wheel.

    removed tire
    soaked wheel drive cog for two days.
    dental pick for thirty minutes and soak again for two days
    Dental pick again and use compressed air to remove last of compressed grass in interior wheel hub
    Grease and reassemble

    Removed wheel covers. Unscrewed nut from threaded axel. Removed old dust covers. Installed new dust covers. Put wheels back on threaded axel, tightened nut onto threaded axel, put wheel covers back on.

    Dust cover had a hole that let debris enter the self propel gears and stop it which then throws the belt.

    Disassembled the front wheels and self propel system cover. Removed affected wheel and replaced dust cover. Reinstalled belt and put it all back together.
