This is a genuine part sourced directly from the manufacturer for use in lawn mowers made by MTD, Ryobi, Troy-Bilt, Bolens, Yard Man, Yard Machines, and Cub Cadet. It is made out of plastic and will need to be replaced if it breaks. The wheel dust cap attaches to the gear and the wheel and helps to keep out dust. During the replacement process, a socket set may be needed to help replace the dust cap. This is available as an individual replacement part.

    Front wheel broke.

    Replaced both front tires and dust caps.
    1. Removed bolt.
    2. Removed tire.
    3. Cut dust cap. Does not come off. Gears in the way. Gears bigger than hole in dust cap. Cut new dust cap for bigger hole and installed.
    4. Installed new tire.
    5. Installed bolt.

    Front Wheel System was not working properly

    Pliers, Socket set, 1/2 inch drive cordless impact/Torx bit socket set

    I used my cordless 1/2 drive impact to remove the wheels and since I used anti seize on the retaining bolts for the drive gears I held the drive shaft with vice grips remove the drive gear and replaced the roll pins on both left and right drive gears install the plastic dust covers reinstalled the gears and wheels. the nuts for the wheels were 9/16 the bolts for the drive gear were tore bit, I raised the lawn mower up resting it on a piece of 4x4.

    Dust plate broke due to small branch sticking. Tires needed replaced anyway.

    Took C clips off the wheel that had broken dust plate. Then replaced the dust plate and wheels

    Remove the nut from the shaft the the wheel is on. Then remove the wheel and dust cap.Replace the old with the new. And you are done.
