This upper drive belt is an authentic OEM sourced item that is commonly utilized on riding lawn mowers and tractors. This is the shorted belt that drives the unit, please note the lower drive belt is sold separately. When replacing this belt make sure to clean the pulleys off to ensure top performance and the longevity of the new belt. This durable rubber belt is sold individually, you will need a wrench set to complete this repair.

    Hello John, thank you for writing. V- Belt 954-04062 This is the main belt that drives the blades and is 1/2-Inch by 77 1/2-Inch. The Belt 954-04001A is the Belt that connects to the Transmission and allows mower to drive and is 5/8-Inch by 69-Inch. The Short Belt 954-05040 is the Shorter Belt which connects to the Transmission and allows mower to drive and is 35-1/4 inch.     The pulley off the transmission and removed the belt. Put the new belt on the pulley and secured the pulley and then took a pry bar and brought the main pulley back to slip the new belt on it.

    1.Removed battery and big transmission pulley
    2.Used crowbar to pry variable speed pulley to the right and put a 2 inch wooden block between pulley and frame.
    3. Put on new belt. Reverse procedure to complete job.

    Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, Adjustable Wrench, gear/pulley puller; aligning punch.

    1.Removed cutting deck.
    2.Removed battery and tray.
    3.Removed access panel by shift lever and rear fenders.
    4.Removed drive pulley from gear box and removed short drive belt.
    5.Disconnected both springs and removed the upper dive belt.
    6.Removed retaining bolt from bottom of crank shaft.
    7.Using pulley puller (gear puller), pulled engine pulley off the shaft.
    8.Extracted upper drive belt.
    9.Cleaned shaft with extremely fine sand paper, installed new pulley and belt.
    10. Reassembled the mower in reverse order.
