    probably needed this
This is just a large fiber washer that fits against the friction wheel. The one on the mower seemed not to be very worn, but while in there, I felt good about replacing this inexpensive part.

I have a chain hoist. So I backed my mower up to it and raised it about 2ft. Then used a 1/2" drive ratchet with 15/16 socket to hold drive wheel in place. Then used a 3/8" drive ratchet and 1/2" deep well socket along with a pipe for a cheater bar to break the 4 nuts (they're very tight if it's never been replaced). Once they're loose they'll come off with your fingers. Then just reverse the process. Probably won't need the cheater bar to tighten them back. ALSO when installing the thrust washer be sure it's turns freely before tightening the cover plate down completely.
