    Perfect Replacement
This was perfect replacement. Works great. Be advised that the thermostat comes in two versions, one with a tab (to keep it from turning) and one without a tab. If your lid has a hole for a tab, either model will work. If you lid does not have a hole for the tab, then this is the one you want.

Just open the grill lid and you can see the thermometer sensor sticking out about 2". At its neck there a wing nut. Remove that and it'll free up the thermometer. Take it out, keep the decorative ring/flange, place it over the new thermometer & reverse the operation. The old thermometer had a positioning lip up above. The new one came without it so just make sure the thermometer is properly positioned (Weber brand name at the bottom). New thermometer installed.

This repair was about as easy as any repair could be. The thermometer rests in a bezel that is located on the grill hood. Because the grill was over 12 years old, I applied some spray lubricant to the wing nut that secures the thermometer inside the bezel housing, which made the task of removing the thermometer much easier. Instillation simply involved placing the new thermometer back into the bezel housing and securing the wingnut from behind. The most time-consuming part involved trying to determine which thermometer to order. There were a couple of thermometers pictured on the website that looked similar to each other, so it goes without saying that doing a little research to determine the exact grill model that you have will help to avoid ordering the wrong part.

Removed old burners. Rusted out bolt heads were cut off and drilled out. New stainless self tapping screws were then used to secure the ends of the burners. This would have been a 15 minute repair but for the severly rusted screw heads.

The old thermometer quit working on a Summit Platinum 4 burner Weber grill, 12 years old.

    Screwdriver, Pliers, WD-40

First, I used WD-40 on the old thermometer to free up the wing nut on the underside of the grill lid. Removal was surprisingly quite easy considering the age and amount of use on my grill.
The main issue was that the replacement kit and the instructions it came with did not include or mention the need for a snap-ring that attaches to the thermometer housing. My grill has a bezel that the thermometer sets in and the snap-ring is necessary to secure the unit to the grill lit. Without this ring the new thermometer could not be tightened down and my have not worked properly.
Fortunately, the snap-ring on the old kit was in good shape (stainless steel) and I was able to use it. The new thermometer works well.
