Grill was left on high for 10 - 15 minutes to cook off accumulated grease by apparently that pegged the thermo past 600 and it stopped working.

, Wing nut turned by hand. No tool needed.

Remove thermometer and reuse its bezel, placing new thermometer inside original bezel.
insert new thermometer/bezel assembly into hole in grill lid. Align the dial so markings are level with horizon.
Place wingnut on the threaded portion of assembly and hand tighten. No need to overtighten.
A snug fit will allow for heat expansion and cool-down contraction.
The ignition system on our Weber grill failed (after 11 years). Just had to replace the ignitor module, ignitor andcwiring. Very easy. While I was at it, I replaced the thermostat that had gotten hazy

The thermometer replacement required the pliers to break loose the wing nut (inside) that secures the thermometer to the lid. A new wing nut is supplied with the new thermometer.

2. Drilled hole in lid for the larger tab on the thermometer.
3. Installed new thermometer and tightened wing nut.
Thermometer was stuck at 250 degrees.
