Husqvarna 325lx trimmer - starter pulley assembly broke
Tool Type
Trimmer
Difficulty
Medium
Time
15-30 minutes
Tools Used
Screwdriver, hex tool/wrench
1. Removed the outer cover using hex tool - this piece holds the pulley assembly - keep track of your screws (that's why I needed the extra - lost one a while back and just needed a replacement)
2. Pull the old pulley assembly out of the cover - watch out for the spring as it can fly out of the assembly - pull from the top, so it will go away from you just in case.
3. Cut the rope as close to the existing knot as possible to remove the rope from the old assembly but leave the rope through the feed hole on the cover.
4. Put the freshly cut rope end through the new assembly and tie a tight knot as close to the end of the rope as possible. Push knotted end into proper place in the assembly.
5. Wind the rope tightly around the assembly and hold it in place with your finger
6. Position the assembly into the unit and try to keep the rope taught, so there will be tension and no extra rope hanging out of the top over the cover - screw assembly in place. *I failed to position perfectly, so have a very small amount of rope hanging out of the cover - it starts and the little bit of overhang isn't hurting anything though, so I will just adjust it again after the season is over.
7. Attach cover back on the trimmer and screw back in place. You may have to turn the metal piece with the pawls (inside the trimmer) a bit to to get the new assembly (inside the cover) to line up properly as it may hit the pawls and the cover wont go back on.
I didn't use the starter pawls as the other ones were still good - just bought them in case the originals decide to break later - will replace those when needed.
