It is the starter housing assembly which is used to pull-start the engine.     Remove 3 torx screws from front of starter assy. Pull starter assy, off and discard. Put new starter assy. on and pull rope handle gently to seat starter into starter pawls and replace 3 torx screws.

    Remove the starter assembly screws using a star bit on a ratcheting screwdriver. Remove the starter assembly and put the new one in and reinstall the 3 screws.

    The starter pawl was missing one of the rubber flippers

    Since I had to remove the starter assembly on a 9yr trimmer to replace the pawl, I figured it would be a good idea to replace it along with the pawl. The installation went as planned. Installed the pawl and starter assembly. I've used it twice since and it works fine.
