This is an authentic Black and Decker replacement part that has been sourced from the original manufacturer to be used with electric lawnmowers. The metal spring is used with the brush holder assembly and fits into the end cap to keep the carbon brushes pressed against the motor's armature. This item is priced as a single item, please note two may be required.

    Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, Nutdriver, Soldering Iron

    Removed mower top cover. (1)
    Removed each shunted brush assembly cover. (2)
    Note which brush assembly is connected to the black & red lead wires.
    Cut wire connecting old shunted brushes, leaving a small amount to solder new wire on. (2)
    Removed each shunted brush from it's housing (2).
    Removed & replaced brush mounting springs (2) & spring end mounting caps. (2)
    Inserted new shunted brush into rectangular brush assembly mount. (2)
    Inserted brush assembly mounts (2) into assembly on top of electric motor.
    Mount & attach each shunted brush assembly cover. (2)
    Solder each shunted brush wire (2) to the appropriate black or red lead wire, as originally wired.
    Replace mower top cover. (1)

    Removed mower housing, removed brush holders and old brushes. Replaced brushes with new ones and reassembled. Worked like new.

    1. Remove the cover of the lawn mower.
    2. Remove the old brush holders.
    3. Cut the brush wires.
    4. Carefully install the terminals in the brass brush holder with the spring behind it.
    5. Reconnect the wires (be careful as the terminals are small and the spring will go flying out)
    6. This is perhaps more than a basic knowledge repair.
