This is an original part from Craftsman for use with Lawn Mowers. The discharge chute door spring keeps the discharge chute door closed. The most common reason for replacing the torsion spring is if it is missing or broken and causing the trail shield to lose tension. This part is sold individually. The tools that you will need to replace the discharge chute door spring are channel-lock pliers, hammer and a large flat-head screwdriver.

1) Removed the door completely by removing both hing bolts.
2) Remove old springs from the door and replace with the new springs. They fit inside a molded hole on the sides of the door.
3) Put the door into place pushing the spring against the stops and inserting the hing bolts through the center of the spring. The springs don't have that much tension so it is pretty easy to do.
4) Tighten up the hinge bolts and you are back in business.
