Product Description ?

This part is an OEM from Craftsman for use with Snow Blowers. The extension spring is used to provide tension between the link rods, and disconnect arm which slows the riding lawnmower down when the speed control is pushed. The most common reason for replacing the spring is if the drive belt does not have enough tension to engage the auger pulley because the spring is broken. This part is sold individually. The tool that you will need to replace the extension spring is a socket wrench.

Smallest part - biggest worry - Thank you eReplacementParts.Com!
As is typical with any machinery, my snow blower broke down in the middle of a large New England snowstorm. Turns out to be the littlest part, an extension spring. Ordered it up on Saturday evening and by Monday AM, I had notification that it was being shipped and would arrive Tuesday. BINGO, arrived on my front porch Tuesday. By far the best experience I have had in a while. Yet again, eReplacementParts.com came to the rescue.

I lost one of the retainer rings, and this caused the rod to slip out of the drive housing. When the rod caught in the drive wheel it stretched one of the tension springs.

I re-installed the rod in the frame of the snowblower, attached the control cable, and installed the springs. Then I reattached the bottom of the drive housing. Pretty simple job! Actually this repair could have been done in the "field" if I would have had an extra spring on hand. (Which I now have.)
