Solenoid Valve was not opening resulting in hot water/steam not coming through the water/steam spigot.

Remove the outer housing of the EAM4500 machine. There are two solenoid valves. One located on the front of the machine and one in the back behind the u-shaped heating element. I tested the machine by removing the hoses, one at a time from the front of the machine to the back to see where the back up was taking place. After determining that the front solenoid was not opening, I removed the hoses, wires, and bracket. Then I installed the new solenoid and tested. You can also test each solenoid with an ohmmeter. (Each should read 400-600 ohms, I believe) Note: This only tests the electronic side of the solenoid and not the mechanical actuation. The valve could still be faulty and test normally with a multimeter.

The new part does not have the same connections as the original part. To adjust I simply stretched the steam hoses to connect directly to the solenoid without and problem. Make sure to reuse or replace the orange/red o-rings that usually stick in the original valve connections.

1. Remove back panel (screws on back)
2. Remove side panels (screws on side)
3. Remove top panel (need to remove grind adjuster - pop cap cover and there is a recessed screw underneath similar to a bathroom tap)
4. Move the display of the coffee maker out with the front (like you are going to remove the grounds)
5. The solenoid is right in front on top of the coffee maker. Remove screws to take it out and replace with the new solenoid.
6. Based on other reviews I bought a bunch of o-rings and connecting pieces to connect to the solenoid since some reviewer said they were needed. I found the new o-rings and connecting pieces did not fit properly and just used the old connecting pieces that fit perfectly. So in my experience save your self the extra $20 is o-rings and connecting pieces and just buy the solenoid valve itself.
7. Most of my time was cleaning the coffee maker while doing the repairs. The coffee maker is frothing again like new with the new solenoid switch.

When replacing the solenoid valve on this unit it is important to note that the directional plastic connectors need to be replaced as well. They do not connect to the replacement part, so make sure you order all the immediate connecting parts.
