Product Description ?

It is a genuine OEM sourced part is specially designed for MTD and Ryobi riding lawn mowers and garden tractors. The solenoid acts like an electromagnetic switch, it engages and routes the battery electrical supply to the engine starter when the ignition switch is rotated to the start position. Unfortunately, over time it may wear out or get damaged eventually requiring a replacement. Keep in mind this high-quality solenoid is sold as an individual component. You will need a screwdriver and a wrench set to perform this repair. Check the diagrams of your model for the exact location and the correct installation of the new part.

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, Wrench Set, multimeter to check operation of old solenoid

    1. On my tractor, an older Yard Man, the solenoid is accessible by removing battery and battery pan beneath battery, and also removing a plate cover over the F/R shift lever on the floor below the dashboard. I didn't know this at first and put the tractor up on blocks and worked from underneath, which is difficult.
    2. Solenoid is attached to the frame by two bolts. (You should note positions of all wires attached to solenoid before removing.) I cleaned and "polished" all wire connections, including ground connections, before installing new one.
    3. Replace access pan, battery pan, install and hook up the battery.

solenoid was complicated due to location under the rear body with removal of battery and battery pan...bolts are outside the rear top of the body and you cannot see the nuts inside the body...starter is easy but you need to remove the motor cover and use a torx bit set.
