The purpose of the shield is to protect the user from any debris that can come loose while trimming. This shield assembly includes the cutting blade to trim the cutting string. Please note this does not include the hardware to mount the shield. Made of a durable hard plastic this part is sold separately.

Good service!!
part arrived within a week--however unable to use it which is my fault--did not notice the part to hold the shield had literally sheared off which I could not believe--the trimmer was bought on 7/19/19 and guess it had some flaw but don't think it can be replaced--can't say I think much of Troy built products but your rush to get the shield was great--thanks for the service

This was the "easiest" replacement/repair I've done yet. The part ordered was "perfect" and actually a lot stronger than the one that came with my original trimmer. Thank you. Just simply remove the wing nut from the old shield, then install the new shield.

Remove the wing nut or screws (depending on which style you have) from the old guard and replace it with the new one. Install the spring in the inner reel, then thread some line out of the upper housing, then push the inner reel and spring into the upper housing and thread on the bump head knob assembly.
