This is a genuine manufacturer-sourced replacement field which is specially designed for Milwaukee power tools. A field is a central component of an electric motor which drives the tool, in conjunction with an armature it rotates the main shaft. Usually, a field is damaged by overloading the power tool, or because of a bad armature. It is highly recommended to replace both carbon brushes when replacing a field. Please note, this high-quality component is sold individually. A screwdriver and a wrench might be needed to perform this repair.

The drill has to be almost completely dismantled to replace the carbon brush field and the difficult part of that was to disconnect(the soldering) the wires and resolder the new wires to the on-off switch.
Again, with basic electrical and mechanical skills it can be done. The parts can be purchased for about a third the cost of a new drill. Reassemble requires patience
and not force it or the person will strip out the screw threads. Works like new and
getting ready to do another Milwaukee(the best) cordless drill.
