I had recently replaces the two gears that let the handle raise/lower the blade. When comparing to the diagram, I noticed that one of the flat washers beneath the horizontal gear (the one connected to the threaded rod) was missing. Also during the previous repair, the two screws that hold the vertical gear in place were becoming stripped.

I replaced the two screws (simple), and while the gears were disengaged, I raised the threaded rod above the mounting bracket and slipped the missing washer into place (no need to remove the gear). I then lubed all the moving parts and reassembled. The blade now raises/lowers as it did when the saw was new.
