Hello David, Thank you for the question. The function of the safety valve is to blow off the compressed air in the air-oil separation tank when the pressure in the air-oil separation tank exceeds the set pressure of the safety valve and there by prevents the tank from cracking under high pressure. We hope this helps!

Made sure unit was unplugged;
Removed electrical wires.
Removed Air monitor pipe.
Removed regulator assembly.
Removed switch/ valve assembly.
Installed new switch/ valve assembly.
Installed regulator assembly.
Installed Air monitor pipe.
Connected all wires starting with the ground wires.
Installed cover and returned to dervice.
Removed electrical wires.
Removed Air monitor pipe.
Removed regulator assembly.
Removed switch/ valve assembly.
Installed new switch/ valve assembly.
Installed regulator assembly.
