The starter rope is pulled to engage the flywheel to start the engine, and the rope recoils back into the starter when the rope is released. The starter rope is sold individually, please see model diagram for associative parts.

    The recoil spring had broken. The pull rope would not retract

    Tools Used

    Pliers, Socket set

    1. Removed the recoil housing ( 3 #10 MM blots )
    2. Removed the inner assembly
    3. Replaced the broken spring with the new one
    4. Wound the spring, inserted a screwdriver through the holes in the housing unit when the spring was almost wound tight.
    5. Slipped the replacement rope into the assembly. Tied a knot in the end of the new rope.
    6. Slowly let the recoil wind the rope in.
    7. Mounted the outer housing with the 3 metric bolts.
