It is simple to replace this ring. Two springs (together) and one nut holds the assembly on the mower. After removal there are 6 bolts holding the sides of the ring holder together. After removal, the ring simply slips off/on and the process is reversed.

Too many to name. Loosened motor, removed pulley parts, disk pad required great deal of penetrating oil to loosen bolt under deck. Reassembly was difficult because I'm old and forgot how I took it apart. Overall, pleased with part order and process. Some delay in receiving parts. Overall a high grade on parts process.

I have had this old Snapper 21500 PC since the 1980s. By now I have been through several springs, rubber rings, and the "turntable" for the transmission to operate. I think I have changed the engine 3 times also and a few bearings on various axel shafts. This mower has provided so many years of excellent service that I refuse to send it to the junk pile. It is very easy to work on and as long as parts are available, I will replace them as needed. The spring was simply stretched into place with a pair of pliers. The rubber ring required the removal of its containing friction wheel, then the screws that hold the two halves together were removed so that the new rubber ring could be installed. After replacing the screws, the friction wheel was put back into place and the retaining mechanism was secured.
