  • worked as expected
retaining ring worked. However Black and Decker needs to go back to their older design. I have to keep replacing the rings to keep the wheels on the mower. The rings rust and fall off. I had a Black and Decker mower for twenty years and it never had the wheels fall off. The new mower Sucks!!

    Easy fix!
I wasn’t sure exactly what part I needed to fix a wheel that had come off my lawn mower. After speaking with the Service Rep., he was able to figure out what part I needed. He also sent me a schematic of my lawn mower in the event that I would need some other part in the future! I have ereplacementparts.com bookmarked!!

I removed the hub from the front wheel and removed the broken retaining ring.
Then I slid the wheel back on the axel and placed the new retaining ring on the axel up to the groove in the axel.
Taking a proper-sized socket, I placed it on the retaining ring and lightly tapped the socket with a hammer until the retaining ring slipped into the groove on the axel.
I then pulled on the wheel making sure it was locked in place.
Tapped the hub back on the wheel and I was finished.
The wheel did not fall off when I cut the grass, so I would say the repair was successful!

    3. Remove two wheel hubs from wheel and cleaned with WD-40.
    4. Replaced wheel hubs and remounted onto axle.
    5. Secured wheel to axle with new retaining ring. Use pliers to set ring into groove in axle shaft.
    6. Replaced wheel cover.
Since the retaining rings are sold in a two-pack, I have a spare for any of the four wheels!
