1. Removed the bottom base plate. Four bolts.
2. Removed the recoil assembly. Four bolts
3. Installed the new recoil assembly.
4. Installed the bottom base plate.
That is all there is to this repair.

recoil assembly broke, decided to change plug and filter while doing primary repair.

Repairs on Shindaiwa T242 brush whacker:
1. Removed broken recoil assembly - it is sometime necessary to loosen adjacent parts to remove the part you're after.
2. Attached new recoil assembly, tightened all loosened fasteners.
3. Remove and replace plug using plug wrench - make sure plug wire is properly seated.
4. Remove and replace air filter using finger screw.
