Screwdriver, Pliers, Small pick to pry out plastic caps
Parts Used
2. Accessed pump by removing appropriate screws to release top and back of espresso machine. Hardest part was removing small plastic caps (without tearing them up) that cover 3 of the screws.
3. Move some of the wires for better access (unplugged 1 set).
4. Disconnect wires (flat clips) from pump (remember placement/order). Pry out small sensor (I forgot what it does) that is covered with some type of sealant.
5. Remove small metal clips that secure water tubes in and out of pump.
6. Unscrew rubber mounts and remove old pump.
7. Transfer mounts onto new pump and screw back into place.
8. Reconnect wires, insert sensor back into place (I did not use any type of sealant/adhesive), reconnect tubes and replace metal clips.
9. Reconnect any wires disconnected before (step 3) and replace top and back of unit with screws and cover plugs.
Note: I actually had a small leak and had to re-open the unit and tighten the plastic "stem" that comes off the pump. All this can take <30 min if you have all the right tools handy and everything goes smoothly. I spent extra time checking youtube videos, trying to get plastic caps out without too much damage, and correcting the leak. But overall a pretty easy project and worth the ~$200 saving and extra time without the machine that sending it back to Breville would have taken.
