This pawl cap houses the pawl mechanism in your drag reel or baitcast reel, so that the related components are secure and properly aligned. It actively engages with gear teeth to prevent backward movement of the reel handle and unintended line unwinding. It is situated near the point where the handle connects to the reel body, on the side opposite the handle. To decide if the pawl cap needs to be replaced, keep an eye out for signs like irregular spool movement, odd clicking sounds, or noticeable damage such as cracks or deformities in the pawl cap. To replace it, begin by removing the line from the spool. Take off the side plates and the support bar to access the pawl cap. Proceed to remove the pawl cap and pawl. Pull out the worm shaft and line guide. Smoothly slide the line guide onto the new worm shaft, replacing the pawl and pawl cap. After assembling the components, grease both the shaft and the gear. Reinsert the support bar. Lastly, reattach the side plate, noting that spinning the worm shaft is necessary to properly engage the gear. This replacement part is sourced directly from its original manufacturer and is sold separately from the worm shaft and line guide.
