Watched a youtube video on replacing the bearings in a Jet lathe. Just like replacing a belt, but once the spindle was removed, knocked out the bearings with a dowel and hammer. Replaced the bearings with new ones, replaced the spindle with a new one. Runs true and great. Total cost was about $150, less than a new set of lathe tools.

Repair Manual for Jet JML 1040 Mini Lathe. Removed Spindle and bearing using allen wrenches, hammer, wood block, and steel punch. No special instruction required. I have the expertise and training to accomplish the repair. Finding the parts was the most important thing. You saved my day. I love this place.
Loosened drive belt, removed handwheel, loosened set screws on spindle pulley. Removed spindle and tapped out old bearings. Cleaned and lightly oiled bearing seats. Installed new bearings. Reassembled lathe. Now running smooth.
The lead screw went right in and attached the handle. Bearing I had to remove the bearing cap and loosen the set screws in the belt pulley. Then took a rubber hammer and knocked out the spindle. I disconnected the power and then released the belt tension. Took the hand wheel off, there are two set screws. In the spindle you have two setscrews, loosen both of them so that the spindle will move freely.
