Engine would not start, found stuck exhaust valve and broken rocker arm. Was then able to start engine, but then had knocking noise. Tore down engine and found play in connecting rod assembly where it connected to crankshaft. Replaced connecting rod assembly, new rings, honed out cylinder and replaced rocker arm. Cleaned all parts.

After reassembly, did not have any compression, found adjustment out on the rocker arms, was keeping exhaust valve open a little, not allowing compression to build up. Adjusted, then after two or three pulls, engine started.
With the timing belt, it is important to make sure that is reassembled correctly to have valves timed properly. Found a video on youtube that explained how to do that.

Disassembled the GX100 engine; made a list of needed parts. Shopped different sites to get the best prices on parts. Received all parts, then began the work: cleaned parts and gasket surfaces; replaced the oil seal on the case half which was reused; installed new valves & springs; assembled the connecting rod to the piston, then installed

Read more the new piston rings; carefully slid the piston into the cylinder; installed the crankshaft & attached the connecting rod to the crankshaft; slipped new timing belt around crank gear & up through to the top of the cylinder head; installed cam gear ensuring the timing was correct; applied gasket sealer to the case halves & carefully slid them together; installed case bolts. Finished building the engine, then installed it into the jumping jack.
