My compressor had a broken connecting rod on one cylinder.

I first removed the compressor from the tank and then the head and cylinders from the compressor. I was fortunate that the rod broke right at the crankshaft so no damage was done inside the case. With the cylinders off, I could remove the bolts from the broken rod. I then cleaned up the crank thoroughly with a fine emery cloth and installed the new rod after washing out the case with a solvent. The only tricky part was compressing the rings to get the cylinders back on. Since the gaskets were not broken, I used a little gasket sealer on the old gaskets to make sure that they didn't leak and bolted the unit back together. The compressor was bolted back onto the tank and put back in operation. I said that the job took more than two hours since it was done in stages. I first took the compressor apart and then ordered parts. After they arrived, I went back to work to put it together.
