This O-ring comes directly from KitchenAid. This item is made of a black rubber. It is found on the shaft for the planetary in many KitchenAid mixers. This O-ring seals the planetary shaft and the lower gearcasing. Replace this part when grease or oil is leaking out of the mixer. To access this part, you will need a punch, a hammer, 2 flat head screwdrivers, and a Philips screwdriver. Any grease or oil that has leaked out should be replaced with equal amounts of #4176597 Planetary grease.

The expendable worm gear was damaged.

1. Detached the main mixer motor/transmission from the mount.
2. Disassembled the main motor and the transmission exposing the damaged gear assembly.
3. Cleaned up the whole unit including the grease in the transmission.
4. Cleaned up the contacts area and the mechanical switch.
5. Reassembled everything using the new gear assembly, grease and the gasket for the transmission.
6. Tested with and without normal operational load. Works well.

Stripped pinion gear
