  • BEWARE! My Dewalt plunge router DW-621 would only run for a secnd
When I checked it out I read that others had this issue and it was the rheostat that was not functioning properly. This is no simple rheostat it will maintain the set speed under a load, a feature essential in the work I do. The replacement cost is $130.oo so I checked to see what a new router would cost and it was about double that. For a few seconds I pondered getting a new router, that way it was ALL new. I opted for a new electronic rheostat. installation was a snap although the plastic guide the lead wires were threaded through placed both wires directly on the metal devices for the bare rotor electrical contacts, big fat alarm! I removed a small thin portion of the plastic guide, running the wires up and over the guide and well away from the electrical contacts. This was the same way the original rheostat was wired, now I knew why. BEWARE: Make sure you re-route the wires to the safe route on this router rheostat! (I just couldn't resist, pun intended:) LOL The install was easy taking 5 minutes max, runs like a champ now.
