This OEM KitchenAid part is used to control the speeds of the mixer as well as act as a switch control. The lever is made from aluminum and comes with a black knob that is not sold separately. The lever is held in place by a philips head screw and a spring washer. This part is commonly purchased with the speed link, #3184176, and the control plate spring, #3183680.

The planetary will need to be removed first. Second is the 9 slot head screws. Third, separate the upper housing from the lower gear casing. Fourth, remove spring with pliers. Fifth is to remove damaged part using philips screwdriver. Follow in reverse order to install and complete repair.

2. Replaced the damaged speed lever.
3. Repainted the exterior
4. Re-assembled and adjusted phase controller mechanical settings.
5. Also replaced the grease in the gear assembly.
6. There are several good instructional videos to aid in dismantling/re-assembly.
Lever knob was gone. Speed control plate was cracked when i had tried to hook the tension spring on lever brkt.
