, a punch small enough to drive the keeper pins out

The problem is not the latch or the latch pins. the problem in the material between the latch pins. That material or part is no longer available. I took the latch pins out and cleaned the material out between them. It looked like some kind of rubber. So i took an o-ring that was a little smaller than the hole and cut a length to put between the latch pins. This allowed the latch pins to be compressed so the latch would close and it is long enough to spread the latch pins so the latch will stay closed. The latch now works as designed. i did not use the new latch pins. This stapler is over 35 years old.
