Tools Used

Screwdriver, 3/8 diameter punch, plastic head hammer, snap ring pliers.

Removed bearing and insulation washer from Makita 4" angle grinder.
These were worn out and melted into the plastic housing.
Cleaned up area for new bearing.
Used small plastic head hammer to install bearing onto shaft and carefully reassembled the armature assembly into the housing.
Greased up all gears and finished the assembly.
This grinder was inherited from my father-in-law which he purchased in 1981.
It was used extensively, and now it is back in service.
These parts fit perfectly!

Making a loud screaming noise and also a bad vibration

Jason - June 6, 2018
Tool Type

Grinder

Difficulty

Medium

Time

1-2 hours

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Hammer, punches, and small clamp

Removed end cap, power cord, and switch. Removed guard, wheel shaft from gearcase, and removed gearcase. Removed motor brushes and rotor from main body of grinder. Had to use hammer, punches, and a small clamp to remove the old bearing. I also had to replace the main motor housing/body of the grinder and the switch holder due to they were melted from the failed bearing. Had to swap motor windings to new housing which was a bit of a challenge to get brush wires hooked back up. Installed new washer and bearing. Reassembled with new switch holder and all other old parts. Works good as new now.
