The square area under the head is designed to fit into a square hole in the workpiece. It is this square hole that restrains the bolt and keeps it from turning when the nut is tightened.

    Followed the instructions on the manual for replacing the blade, took off the rope I was using for the knob handle and screw, put the plug discharge in the rear so I did not have to bag every time I mowed.

    I put the bolt through the handle, put the washer on, and tightened the screw as tight as I manually could. They did not loosen on next use. So I call this repair a success
