Pulled starter rope out to full extension. Tied rope to throttle lever so it would not retract back into the engine. Using needle nose pliers, I pulled the knot on the end of the pull rope out of the broken handle (rope was still in good condition), and used the pliers to untie the knot. After removing the rope end from the broken handle, I threaded it through the hole of the new handle and tied a double knot. I then untied the rope from the throttle lever and let it retract back into the engine.

Have used the new handle twice and everything is working fine.
