Little sleeve the pinion drops into was to small. Resized the hole in a couple of minutes and it dropped in no problem.

Dropped the mower deck and unpinned mower deck.Removed the steering unit.The pinion gear was stripped on the lower end.I ordered a new pinion gear and spacer.The pinion gear I received was too small .The parts picture didn’t give any measurements and it looked like the par I needed.The part i received was just what I needed but the gear part of it was too small.I shimmed the old pinion gear so the good teeth was being used and reinstalled the steering section an reinstalled mower deck and it worked out ok.

Removed part of the dash, fuel tank and stripped pinion gear.
Replacer pinion gear and re assembled all remover parts.
Now it steers like a new lawn tractor.
