This is a genuine replacement gearbox assembly which was specially designed to work with string trimmers. This part is attached to the lower boom assembly and it is what drives/spins the trimmer head. It is made out of metal and it is sold individually. Please note, internal gears or the housing are not sold separately. You will need a screwdriver to complete this repair.

Hello Bill, Thank you for the question. No, the string head assembly is easily removed from the unit by twisting the retainer clockwise. This is a reversed threaded retainer. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair.

Removed old gear head, line up the new one tightened it up. Cranked up trimmer and it worked just like it did when it was brand new.....very easy to complete
