The gear and shaft go between the intershaft and the bearing support. This part is available as an individual replacement. It is a genuine OEM sourced part which is specially designed for use with hedge trimmers made by DeWALT and Black & Decker. During replacement, it may require a screwdriver to help install this item correctly. It is made of metal and will need to be replaced if it becomes broken.

    Hedge trimmer blade stopped oscillating.

    1. Remove handle and blade guard.
    2. Remove all screws. Screw has star and blade slot.
    3. Separate two halves.
    4. Use latex gloves.
    5. Remove all parts from the motor to the blade gear.
    6. Remove the grease that is contaminated with iron fillings from the stripped gear.
    7. Add half the tube of new grease.
    8. Starting at motor, assemble the new parts, slide them into place.
    9. Add the remaining grease.
    10. At this point, I replaced the switch lock.
    11. Assemble the halves and replaces the screws.
    The screws are self threading. Turn the screw to the left to feel a little click. Tighten screw.
    12. Replace the blade guard and handle.
    13. Clean the blade and lubricate it.
    14. Test to verify the Hedge Trimmer is running properly.

    Screwdriver

    1. Removed all screws to take off guard and handle.
    2. Open right side of trimmer to expose gears, Support the blade while you do the repair.
    3. Removed stripped gear and bearings.
    4. There is a lot of grease in the gear compartment.
    5. You may have to remove/replace the grease because of metal filings from stripped gear.
    6. Install the new gear and bearings.
    7. Replace right side of trimmer.
    8. Replace screws. Turn the screw to the left until you feel a click, then tighten.
    9 Replace the guard and handle.
    10. Clean the blade with WD-40.

    Works like new.
