Air leak at air outlet cover

Socket set

Removed head bolts. Removed air outlet bolts. Cleaned any existing old gasket material with putty knife, wire brush and fine grit wet/dry sand paper. Applied new gasket. No sealant. Assembled in reverse. New gasket did not seal, it was too thin. Proceeded to make my own gasket with a thicker gasket material I had laying around, it was twice as thick as the material used for the new one. Even the old one was thicker than the new one. Runs like new with no leaks. This air compressor is about 35 years old and has almost all original parts.

This was an old compressor maintenance issue. The intake cover was removed for inspection and screen cleaning. Gasket had been stuck and broke when removed. Intake has spider webs on screens.

Socket set, Putty knife , spray solvent , bench grinder with wire wheel

Removed intake metal plate which had 2 long hex head bolts. Took gasket out which was in very dry and brittle from heat and stuck in places to intake base metal. Sprayed brake cleaner solvent on gasket that stuck to head and bottom of plate. Scraped carefully softened gasket off with putty knife. Took intake cover plate and used a bench grinder wire wheel to clean bottom of plate. Reinstalled new gasket and reinstalled the two hex heads and carefully tightened them. The head plate was removed which had 5 small short hex head bolts and the same cleaning procedure was used with gasket surface cleaning and using grinder wire brush to remove residue on bottom of top plate. After cleaning reinstalled the new gasket and plate. Installed the five small hex head bolts and tightened in cross hatch pattern completed in less then 60 min.
