Jack up back of mower, remove tires and then remove the seat, battery the two drive belts, the brake cable, remove pin from shifting arm and disconnect. there are two springs that also have to be removed. One is very strong so you may need some help with it. There is the drive pulley on top of the transmission that I also removed to make the repair work a little easier. I then put the unit on the work bench and removed all the bolts. They all the same length so you can't mix them up when you put them back. Be careful removing the top half of the axle because there is a ball bearing under the shifting arm that is spring loaded that can pop out if the arm moves. The parts are all easy to replace, just take your time. You just reverse your steps putting it back together.
