Removed old fan that was damaged and was able to salvage motor housing and reuse after separating the damaged fan from it. Installed new fan and bolt and secured. Verified fly wheel with fan mounted to it spun freely and did not drag against the motor housing.

The engine leaked oil from the overhead valve cover gasket failure and the leaking oil caught fire and melted all the plastic parts

Frederick - May 1, 2018
I removed all melted plastic parts and valve cover and head. I cleaned everything and replace with new gaskets and parts. It started and runs perfectly as it did before the fire.
I am happy I caught the fire to put it out before it was totally destroyed. Now I have my mower back and will keep an eye on that overhead valve cover for leaks in the future.
