They are the same part number 781-0080-0637 so there is a good chance it is the same blade for the 2016.     Edger blade shaft bearings froze

    The MTD blade shaft is basically a 5/8" bolt secured to the edger by the bearing retainers on each side of the paddle that permits edging at different angles. Removing the nut that secures the blade releases the shaft so that it can be removed from the pulley-side. Keep track of where all the spacers and washers go relative to the two-part drive pulley and the blade. Once the shaft is removed, the two bearing retainers can be removed, old bearings tapped or pressed out of them, and the new bearings installed.

    Remove belt guards, r & r belt, reinstall guards.

    Blade has a single nut that needs to be removed to r & r the blade. Reinstall the nut.

    Replaced failed belt guard with new one. Two screws. Replaced worn blade - Used box wrench to hold spindle nut while removing the blade mounting nut with a socket and ratchet. Used some oil to lube all threads and reassembled. Works great now and safe.
