The power cord was the original (over 50 years old) and the square drive hole on the bottom of the shaft was worn.

Pretty self explanatory. Removed the old shaft and replaced with new.
The only problem came with the power cord. The old cord did not have a grounded plug the the old standard 2 prong. The new cord was grounded with 3 wires (blue, green, and brown). Since I didn't know how to match them up with the 2 black wires on the blender, I called my electrician. He said that the colors on the replacement are European and that the brown matches with black. Worked fine.
