Grill burned knobs off front of grill & burned regulator hose

Chad - August 15, 2016
Tool Type

Outdoor Grill

Difficulty

Medium

Time

15-30 minutes

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Power Drill, Adjustable Wrench, Small screwdriver/pick to act as scraper.

1. Removed leftover plastic material from around knobs.
2. Removed phillips screws holding control knob bezels
3. Placed new bezels on and held reassembled philips screw.
4. Pushed on control knobs (easy).
5. shut off propane tank, removed connection at tank.
6. With end wrench, loosened supply connection from regulator to grill manifold.
7. tighten manifold nut on manifold with end wrench.
8. Make connection at tank.
9. With a bit of dish soap and warm water, make suds and turn on valve on tank once all control valves are ensured they are "off" positions. Check for leaks at tank & connection at manifold with new regulator hose.
10. Turn on one valve and ignite grill.
11. repeat for other burners.
12. I had to remove the regulator as I could only get the grill up to 200 degrees. Found out the regulator only had a .070" hole and the old one was over twice the diameter. I carefully drilled this out to the larger size to match the old one. I don't recommend anyone do this with their brand new regulator. I'm guessing I got one that was drilled for natural gas instead of propane. No big deal, but it made a huge difference with performance and oxygen fuel ratio. If you have to do this you will have to repeat steps 5-11.
