This repair is to replace the clutch springs in a Cub Cadet model CC5090 string trimmer. I could not find a supplier for the original springs and substituted with Ryobi part # 791-181599.
The Ryobi springs are a little stiffer than the originals, so engagement speed is a little higher, but quite acceptable.
1. Removed the throttle grip from the shaft, leaving the throttle cable and stop wire attached
2. Remove the shaft from the black plastic housing over the clutch - remove the small screw and loosen the clamping screw and pull the shaft out.
3. Remove the black plastic housing to get at the clutch.
4. Using an allen wrench, loosen the retaining screw holding the clutch drum to the clutch ass'y
5. Remove the clutch drum
6. Use pliers to remove the original springs and install the replacements
7. Reverse above steps to reassemble.
