These steel cleats are sold individually (you will need to purchase two for a set of shoes). They are compatible with all Shimano SPD shoes and pedals. They are designed to fit Shimano brand shoes, but work with any shoe that accepts a cleat nut plate. Cleats wear out over time and should be replaced periodically. It is common for cleats to become stripped during cycling. There is no need to replace your entire shoe, just replace the worn-out cleat nut. Cleats should be replaced when they become difficult to release, or they start to release with much less effort then when it was in new condition. To install the new cleat, remove the sole, and the plates slides right in.
