    snowblower would not start

    Christopher - December 22, 2015
    Tool Type

    Snowblower

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Pliers, Socket set, allen wrench

Snowblower would not start after sitting all summer with gas in the tank. Tried removing and cleaning the carb. It would start but would only run for a few seconds after all that. After replacing the carb with a new one it worked perfectly. The allen cap-bolts which fasten the carb to the engine were difficult to remove, had to hammer the allen wrench in place so it would not strip when turned. After the old one was removed it was straightforward putting in the new one. I had to re-use the governor-spring and bracket plus the air-intake shield from the old carb, so don't throw those parts away. Then bought ethanol-free 2-cycle fuel at Home Depot which supposedly won't break down over time.

Machine was left with gas in it for several years. Carburetor was plugged solid.

    Carson - December 2, 2015
    Tool Type

    Snowblower

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    30-60 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Pliers, Nutdriver

Dissassembly was the most time consuming. Getting the shrouds off the machine took some time.
Once the carburetor was exposed, it was a simple 2 screw change and reconnecting the governor spring and the gas line. Snowblower works again.
