Product Description ?

This is an original Dremel replacement part manufactured for use with scroll saws. Brushes are wear items because they are in contact with the spinning armature of the motor when the saw is in use. Therefore, the brushes will eventually wear down requiring replacement.

    Motor would not turn

    Larry - October 10, 2017
    Tool Type

    Scroll Saw

    Difficulty

    Medium

    Time

    1-2 hours

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, 600 grit sandpaper taped to Q-tip

    1. Removed brushes. Both were stuck to the armature, was able to pull one out, had to crush the other.
    2. Ordered new brushes set from eReplacement Parts. Cleaned crushed carbon from armature.
    4. After about a week I received one brush from eReplacement Parts. Was surprised that I did not receive a pair. Went back to the eReplacement Parts web site and read the note beside the asterisk that says the order was for one part only. Decided not to complain, filed the experience under "buyer beware".
    5. Since the one brush that was pulled free appeared to be in good shape, I decided to try and use it and the new brush received from eReplacement Parts. I installed them and applied power but the motor still would not turn. Since I had received only one new brush from eReplacement Parts, at this point I did not know if I still had a bad brush but decided to troubleshoot further before ordering a new brush SET from a better source.
    6. With brushes removed, I checked DC voltage on the armature - it was about 110 volts.
    7. Having noticed that some of the armature segments were discolored, I cleaned the armature using 600 grit sandpaper taped to a Q-tip and DeoxIT contact cleaner.
    8. I then re-installed and new brushes and re-applied power. It worked.

Scroll saw sat for years, brushes froze in place-- dremel workbench type,

    jack - February 9, 2016
    Tool Type

    Scroll Saw

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    Less than 15 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver

I removed the cover protecting the motor and then removed the brushes- had to drill one and insert a small screw to pull the brush out- inserted the two new brushes and put cover back on the motor. The saw ran like it did years ago. Good price, good quality and good service.
