Product Description ?

This is a genuine Dewalt replacement part, it is sold individually.

Worn brushes frequently are the cause behind a motor running poorly.
• Replacing brushes can fix a motor that’s operating intermittently.
• New brushes can restore a motor’s electric braking.

Carbon brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool parts. This is because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away until they need replacing. Worn brushes are a common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking and reduced motor power. A worn-out brush will often be worn down near to the wire lead and can be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which can indicate larger motor problems.

Needed new brushes, broke the mount, needed a new case

When the brushes failed, the arms that hold them against the armature were damaged. They were held in with #4 star drive screws (TINY!!) which I initially thought were Allen screws, they were that hard to see (and very difficult to approach, being tucked in behind the motor fan). I broke the arm mount in disassembly but with a certain amount of force and the replacement case, I'm back in business. Should have removed the fan so I could see the mount screws with a magnifier (which is what I used) and would have saved the damaged mount/case and made a MUCH simpler repair.

Grinder needed new brushes and the cord was damaged. Safety first, Put on eye protection. Cord was easily replaced by removing side cover and removing two screws holding cord wires to switch. Install cord protector on cord. Replace screws with new cord wires in place, reassemble cover. Brushes were also an easy remove and replace. Removed brush covers by removing screw and opening cover. Pull back brush holder spring and lock on pin. Install new brushes by installing brush wire thru hole in brush holder and set brushes in holder and release brush holder spring from pin. Spring rest against brush holder, keeping tension between brushes and against armature. Plug brush wire into brush wire connector. Repeat for other side.Reinstall brush covers install screws to hold cover in place. Test Grinder for correct operation.
